Festival Theme
The theme of my pop-up festival would be one that surrounds the cultural diversity of Birmingham in order to help combat the issue of ethnic segregation within the city- an issue which prevents the potential for equal cultural opportunities and results in a lack of ethnic and cultural integration- despite the vast cultural diversity. The festival would focus on the traditional foods of international culture, many of which are already dotted around specific areas of Birmingham. The aim of the festival would be to place a taste of global cuisine in one space- an underused urban environment, that is located under the Spaghetti Junction; a place of importance in terms of networking and works to bridge people globally and nationally into the centre of Birmingham. As a result provides a temporary space that will cultivate the integration of different ethnic groups and work alongside the Council to bridge cohesion amongst the people of Birmingham. Furthermore, the festival would act as a means of educating the next generation as to the importance of cultural diversity and integration socially as well as instilling a sense of respect for other cultures.
